Academic Convocation Committee
Reporting Line
The Academic Convocation Committee reports to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, in continued
partnership with Student Life.
Composition of Membership
The committee will be composed of the following members:
• Five faculty members
• The Director of New Student Programs or his or her designee
• The University Chaplain or his or her designee
• The Senior Director of Institutional Events
• Associate Vice Provost for Academic Enrollment Management
• A student representative
The chair of the committee will be a faculty member who has served on the committee for at least one year. Faculty members on the committee serve for three-year terms and are selected by the University Committee on Committees. The Associate Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students will appoint a student annually to serve on the committee. The student will be a junior with at least a 3.0 grade point average and who is active in university life.
Committee Charge Responsibilities
The charge of the committee is to plan and execute the annual Academic Convocation of the university. The responsibilities of the committee include:
• Developing the theme of each convocation ceremony
• Organizing the order of the program
• Selecting and collaborating with an esteemed faculty speaker in the delivery of a keynote address
• Organizing musical performances
• Organizing student activities such as hymns and interactive exercises
• Overseeing all other logistical requirements of the ceremony
In carrying out these responsibilities, the committee meets approximately three times per semester, participates in support activities outside regular meetings, and assigns members to conduct the convocation rehearsal and ceremony.
